The terms apply to any sales transactions made through www.portwoodstudio.com (our site), sales through the phone, our showrooms and our brochure.
1. General terms
1.1 It is not necessary to register with us in order to use most parts of this website. However, particular areas of this website will only be accessible only if you have registered.
Use of website
1.2 This website may be used for your own private purposes and in accordance with these terms and conditions. Port Wood Furniture Studio has the right to refuse to serve to an individual or a company.
1.3 You may print and download material from this website provided that you do not modify or reproduce any content without our prior written consent.
1.4 All reasonable measures are taken by us to ensure that this website is operational all day, every day. However, occasionally technical issues may result in some downtime and accordingly we will not be liable if this website is unavailable at any time.
1.5 Where possible we always try to give advance warning of maintenance issues that may result in website down time but we shall not be obliged to provide such notice.
Visitor provided material
1.7 When using this website you shall not post or send to or from this website any material:
(a) for which you have not obtained all necessary consents;
(b) that is discriminatory, obscene, pornographic, defamatory, liable to incite racial hatred, in breach of confidentiality or privacy, which may cause annoyance or inconvenience to others, which encourages or constitutes conduct that would be deemed a criminal offence, give rise to a civil liability, or otherwise is contrary to the law in the United Kingdom;
(c) which is harmful in nature including, and without limitation, computer viruses, Trojan horses, corrupted data, or other potentially harmful software or data.
1.8 We will fully co-operate with any law enforcement authorities or court order requiring us to disclose the identity or other details of any person posting material to this website in breach of Paragraph 1.7.

Exclusion of liability
1.14 We do not accept liability for any loss or damage that you suffer as a result of using this website.
1.15 Nothing in these terms and conditions shall exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence which cannot be excluded or under the law of the United Kingdom.
2.1 As all of the products at Port Wood Furniture Studio are handmade, please note there may be slight differences within the final measurements delivered to you. Please allow for +/- 5mm variance on all furniture ordered through us, Port Wood Furniture Studio. If precise measurements are required, please contact us directly prior to placing the order. See contact details on the website. Please also allow for some variations in colour shading from what is seen on our website. Images on our website do not 100% represent the colour/shade that is delivered, as images may vary from one interface to the other and we work with natural materials, which come in slight colour variations. Please allow for slight variations in shape on all hand made products as they are made from natural materials, using hand crafting techniques.
2.5 We will confirm all your order details in writing, usually within 2 business days of your order being placed (business days do not include Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday Monday or UK national holidays). We will send an email confirmation of dispatch when your Goods are ready for delivery.
2.2 Products made from fresh or air dried oak are subject to shrinking and cracking once indoors, which may continue for 2-3 years after purchase. Oak products left outdoors will weather and turn silvery grey colour after a period of time, when exposed to rain and moisture. Whilst we coat our oak products in protective wax formula, products made from fresh and air dried oak have a high moisture content and high tannin content and care should be taken when placing these products on carpeted, stone and wooden floors, as these can be stained or damaged through moisture. We recommend floors are protected with a piece of plastic under the wooden pieces for the first 6 months after purchase, to prevent such damage.
2.3 Port Wood Furniture Studio supplies both standard-sized and bespoke Goods. Standard-sized Goods include all the pieces which can be ordered using the dimensions / sizes in the drop-down menus on our website. Bespoke Goods are made to order to dimensions supplied by you. Please note the difference in our cancellation and returns policies with respect to standard-sized and bespoke furniture orders.
2.4 You are responsible for checking that all the details of your order are correct and suitable for your requirements including measurements, dimensions, product features, access and delivery. Please note that oak furniture pieces specifically are made from large sections of oak and glass, each of which may weigh in excess of 100kg and measure up to 3m in length. Please consider this when purchasing the products as deliveries to upper floors or via complicated access routes may not always be possible. If we attempt to make a delivery and cannot access the room of choice due to size restrictions then a delivery charge will be applicable to you. We also cannot accept liability for damage to your walls, railings or decorative items when attempting to deliver the goods.
3. Cancellation Policy
If you order a standard-sized item, you may cancel your order without incurring any costs at any time prior to delivery as long as the items have not been dispatched for delivery.
If you wish to cancel a bespoke order you may do so at any time up to 5 working days after you have placed your order by contacting us in writing at firstname.lastname@example.org
, stating ‘Order cancellation + Your Name’ in the subject header.
In the event that we are unable to source the materials requested within your Order, we will contact you through the details you have provided us, and discuss any change to your order, at which point we reserve the right to cancel your Order in full or part.
4. Returns and Refunds Policy
4.1 Standard-sized Goods, may be returned to us as long as we are notified in writing within 14 business days of the delivery. These Goods must not have been used or damaged after the delivery has taken place. A full refund will be offered at this stage, although we will apply a charge for the delivery costs already incurred by us (Port Wood Furniture Studio), as well as a charge for collection of the item. Delivery costs tend to vary and is dependent on size and number of items. It may vary from £40 upwards, per item)
4.2 Items must be returned in perfect condition and in their original, undamaged packaging. We cannot be responsible for return postage or packages that do not reach us.
Bespoke Goods are non-returnable and you waive the right to receive a refund when ordering bespoke Goods, except if faulty. To inform us of faulty goods, you must do so within 14 working days from the date of delivery, in writing to email@example.com
, stating ‘Faulty Goods + Your Name’ in the subject header of the email. Please attach a photograph of the faulty Goods so we can ascertain the extent of damage. We will arrange for the collection of the Goods and a full refund including delivery costs, once we have inspected the faulty Goods through the image you sent us.
5. Delivery policy
Most of our products are hand made to order. Standard items available on the website will normally be delivered within 4 – 12 weeks of order. Bespoke items are made to your requirements and can take longer to deliver. For bespoke orders, we will supply you with a guide delivery time prior to your order being placed.
Product prices are inclusive of delivery fees where delivery is intended for mainland UK only, (excluding any non-mainland UK delivery addresses such as the Channel Islands, Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man and Shetland Islands, where you will need to phone to obtain a delivery quote). Upon any order being placed outside of the UK, shipping and customs arrangements will need to be arranged by the buyer, this is not the responsibility of Port Wood Furniture Studio. You are responsible for ensuring the dimensions of your purchase meets your requirements and has suitable access to your room, home, office or other intended use. Our delivery service provider will contact you by phone or email, using the contact information provided at the time of order, to agree a delivery date for the coming 5 days. Once your delivery date has been agreed by you, delivery will be deemed to take place at the agreed date.
Should the delivery be dispatched and you are unable to take it at the agreed delivery date, re-delivery charges may apply. If we attempt to make a delivery and cannot access the premises/room of choice due to size restrictions, then a delivery charge will be applicable to you.
Should you need to delay the delivery of your Goods, after a delivery date has been agreed, storage costs may be incurred.
For large items (such as oak furniture), we operate a 2 or 4-man delivery service to room of choice. Placement of the item to room of choice will take place once a satisfactory safety assessment has been carried out by our delivery team / driver. Should the room of choice not meet the safety assessment requirements, then our delivery team / driver will place the Goods in an alternative location. If you have any concerns at all with regards to accessing your required room/premises, please contact us prior to placing an order, see contact details on the website.
A complimentary assembly service is available for some items - see individual products. Please contact us prior to arranging the delivery date to book this service.
For small to medium items, we operate a 1-man delivery service and the item is delivered to just over the threshold of the property. For such deliveries, our drivers are not allowed to deliver items single-handedly up flights of stairs. However, if assistance is provided by the recipient, our obliging drivers will often help to move items up flights of stairs, but please note that the items or your property are not insured if damaged. Larger deliveries will be delivered by 2 or 4 man delivery service and will require your presence.
Please note, it is not the responsibility of our delivery team/driver to move or dismantle any furniture, which is already in the room. Nor is it their responsibility to clean the room after your Goods have been assembled or to remove packaging from the delivery address

6. Inspection of goods and notification of defects
Once the goods have been delivered and, if required, assembled, you will need to inspect the Goods and will be asked to sign to acknowledge receipt. Should you appoint a third party to accept your delivery for you, they (the third party) will be deemed responsible to inspect your Goods upon arrival for any damage or defects. Either you (the customer) or a third party acting in your place to receive the delivery, must be of the age of 18+ in order to sign for the Goods.
Large items that are assembled by our delivery team at the delivery address, must be inspected by you (the customer or your appointed third party) at point of delivery. Any defects must be notified to our delivery team at the time of delivery.
Goods that do not require assembly by our delivery team at the delivery address, should be unpacked and inspected by you at the time of delivery. If, for any reason, you are unable to inspect the Goods at the time of delivery due to packaging around the goods (only applicable to items not assembled by our delivery team at the delivery address), then you must notify us in writing at firstname.lastname@example.org
stating the defects and attaching a photograph, within 14 working days of delivery, stating ‘Faulty Goods + Your Name’ in the subject header of the email. Please attach a photograph of the faulty Goods so we can ascertain the extent of damage. We will arrange for the collection of the Goods and a full refund including delivery costs, once we have inspected the faulty Goods through the image you sent us. Failure to notify us within 14 working days from the date of delivery will result in you being deemed to have accepted the Goods. After acceptance, you shall not be entitled to reject the Goods delivered to you (the customer) by us, Port Wood Furniture Studio.
Many Port Wood Furniture Studio products are made from natural solid wood, raw wool or animal skins. The character of these materials means variations occur in their appearance, colour and shape, which differ from the photographs on the website. These materials are also subject to shrinking and cracking for a period of up to 2 years after delivery. Oak kept outdoors will turn silvery grey colour if exposed to elements such as wind and rain. There are no circumstances in which you (the customer) can reject the Goods delivered by us (Port Wood Furniture Studio) on the basis of such defects. These are considered to be minor and your rejection would be deemed unreasonable.
Once a fault or defect has been notified to us (Port Wood Furniture Studio) we will endeavour to promptly rectify the issue with you through exchange, repair or refund. Nevertheless, we will not remain liable for the Goods if you continue to use them, or if any repairs or alterations are made, by you, to the Goods, without written consent from us (Port Wood Furniture Studio).
Goods made from natural wood may have splinters. It is the responsibility of you (the customer) to take appropriate care to ensure they do not pierce your skin. It is also the responsibility of you (the customer) to remove any splintered wood accordingly. In the event it seems unclear for you (the customer) how to correctly treat a splintered area, please contact Port Wood Furniture Studio for advice by phone or by email.
Law and jurisdiction
These terms and conditions are governed by English law. Any dispute arising in connection with these terms and conditions shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of England and Wales.
